Singing lessons for children.
-
What is a good age to start?
I believe that children are ready to enroll in singing lessons whenever they show an interest in singing or making music on their own. I generally recommend starting around the age of 7 with one on one singing lessons. Around that time, children develop the ability to concentrate over longer periods of time and they have a deeper body awareness, both of which are needed for singing lessons. But every child is different and I have taught children younger than 7 years of age who were ready for singing lessons. That’s why I’m happy to schedule a trial lesson for children of any age to determine if they are ready to benefit from one on one singing lessons. For very young children I recommend early childhood music classes or singing groups.

Lesson content.
Depending on the age of the child, the lesson content and teaching methods will change. However, at the core, we will work with a mixture of fun ear training and rhythm exercises, piano playing, and vocal exercises that encourage relaxed and open singing for healthy singing habits. A significant part of the lesson will be learning songs appropriate for each child’s vocal range. My goal is to foster overall musicality and enjoyment, and most importantly, intrinsic motivation for music and singing. Furthermore, these lessons will help develop deeper body awareness and train the musical ear while using the piano and voice in a playful way.
*The lessons can be taught in Dutch, English or German.
The first lesson.
Your child’s first lesson at the Creative Voice Studio will be a trial lesson and 40 minutes long. This lesson will not be different from regular lessons in terms of the content. I want to give your child the opportunity to experience a lesson with me and see if they enjoy their time at the Creative Voice Studio before committing to a lesson package.
